Guest
Be aware, I'm not claiming to be a DMR expert, nor is this the end all be all of DMR guides. These are just my findings as a Prophet Spotter tag holder that has observed the different situations that DMRs are useful in and the commonly used DMRs. Also be aware some of the values I use are from Wiki's, please don't blame me if the information is wrong. Overview: In this guide the following will be covered The Designated Marksman Rifles within our mod pack The caliber, attachments, what faction uses it, max range, best range for the rifle, etc. Choosing a location to set up in, compared to an objective Roles a Designated Marksman can take during a mission Equipment The mods I'm using are: SIGHT: AMS, MUZZLE: MAG58 Flash Hider BIPOD: Bipod (NATO) RAIL: None Guidelines for being a proper Designated Marksman: Don't stray too far from your squad. Only take a DMR if your squad lead allows you to do so. Don't take a high position that takes a while to get up/down from if you know you're moving soon. Don't take DMR if you're AAR. If you're not doing a stealth-based mission don't take a suppressor, unless you want reduced range. Don't ask for DMR if you know you will be in a close-quarters-combat environment. Try and be more helpful and less hindering on your squad. Though this may be similar in some aspects to Prophet, IT IS NOT PROPHET. It should not be used to engage targets more than 150 meters away as the subsonic round's power drops-off very quickly the further it travels. In addition, the extremely wide trajectory of the rounds ballistic model makes it almost impossible to attack long range targets with." These roles can be: Spotting enemies/emplacements/assets for your squad Taking out infantry from a safe distance Covering your squad whilst they advance Recon/Scout Area suppression/defense Example: This is Kelly. This is Kelly's squad. There's Kelly's squads objective and where they are now. Within the immediate area there are 2 places that Kelly can go to provide overwatch and cover for. Now which one should Kelly go for? The distance from the top of the left tower to the objective is 1000 m, that's no good for a DMR. The distance from the top of the left tower to the objective is 850 m, that's a perfect distance for Kelly. So keep in mind before choosing a location for overwatch/providing cover, you'll have to take the following into consideration: Height of the postion Nearby cover Distance to your squad Distance to your objective Max distance of your DMR Example 2: This is Danill, he's scouting/defending an area for/against enemy units. This is Danill's squad, they're closer to the enemies but can't see them due to cover/buildings/trees/etc. Danill see's a enemy squad and a IFV but they're too far away and there's too many to take out on his own. What should Danill do? What Danill should properly do is mark their location on the map as best he can and call it out over the radio. If and when they get into range Danill can try and kill them. So keep in mind before choosing a location for defending/scouting you'll have to take the following into consideration: Height of the postion Nearby cover Distance to your squad Distance to your objective Max distance of your DMR Where the enemies are coming from Where the enemies are Equipment: As the Designated Marksman your equipment shouldn't make you over 35 kg total. Some useful equipment for being a Designated Marksman is: Range Card Rangedfinder SSWT kit A short range scope (1x-4x) Smoke grenades A bipod for your weapon of choice Packing bandages (Really useful when you're a distance away from your medic) Edited March 13, 2018 by Guest
